MMSA insight broadens and enhances Energy Aspects’ capabilities across key commodity markets.
London, December 2024—Leading energy analytics and data company, Energy Aspects, has acquired pre-eminent methanol market analysis firm, MMSA. This acquisition broadens Energy Aspects’ offering to clients with an even wider range of insights across critical commodities. In turn, MMSA’s clients will benefit from exposure to Energy Aspects’ proprietary datasets and expert analysis, enhancing their use of comprehensive, data-driven market intelligence.
Commenting on the acquisition, Dr. Amrita Sen, Founder and Director of Market Intelligence at Energy Aspects, said: “We are delighted to welcome MMSA to the Energy Aspects family. Their extensive expertise in methanol markets adds significant value to our portfolio of data and intelligence coverage. This investment further strengthens our commitment to delivering high-quality analysis to our clients.”
Mark Berggren, Managing Director of MMSA, said: “We have long admired Energy Aspects’ exceptional research and data-driven insights across the energy markets. Joining forces with them is an exciting step for us. By combining our methanol market expertise with their broader commodities coverage, we believe we can offer even greater value to the global methanol community and contribute meaningfully to the evolving energy landscape.”
In addition to its role as an essential intermediate in the petrochemical value chain, methanol is poised to play a pivotal role in the energy transition, potentially serving as a versatile and sustainable energy carrier. MMSA’s expertise, particularly some recent and exciting work in low-carbon methanol, aligns with Energy Aspects’ forward-looking approach to the changing energy outlook and its expansion in the sustainable energy space.
This acquisition follows Energy Aspects’ purchase of Its Not a Science (INAS), a leading quantitative analytics business, in April 2023; OilX, a pioneer in AI-driven energy data analytics, in February 2023; and Medley Global Advisors in 2020. This latest acquisition underscores Energy Aspects’ ambition to be the premier platform for data and intelligence, empowering market participants with unmatched insights to navigate complex and evolving global commodity markets.
