Nicky Ferguson

Head of Quantitative Research

Dr. Nicky Ferguson leads the EA-Quantitative Analytics service focused on futures market positioning, flows and risk. Previously, Nicky founded It’s Not a Science (INAS), a research company specializing in quantitative strategy research for commodity markets with a specific focus on modeling paper flows. Energy Aspects acquired INAS in April 2023, bolstering Energy Aspects’ insights by adding quantitative capability and financial flow analysis to the EA Group offering, helping clients to break down market positioning.

Nicky developed deep expertise working as a quantitative strategist and proprietary trader in the energy derivatives space, managing systematic and discretionary risk during his career at Kock Supply and Trading, followed by BKW Energie and Statkraft before founding INAS. He holds an MPhil and PhD in Finance from University of Cambridge with a research focus on time series analysis and information processing.
